Reykjavik, Iceland

The Gullfoss Falls
A few Vikings keeping cold in the snow for us :)
The Geysers!
The tyre on our tour bus - even the water froze!!!
The Blue Lagoon!

Wow, what an amazing place to actually see. This was by far, our most adventerous trip yet! We landed at Keflavik ariport at around midnight Friday and hired a car. The weather wasn't too bad, but still cold compared to London. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights from the plane as we were about to land in Iceland... we weren't to know that this was going to be our only time for the whole trip :(

We drove to our accommodation which was about 20km away from the airport called the Northern Light Inn... pretty standard accommodation, but the beauty was the location. Right next to the wonderful Blue Lagoon! Of course, after our sleep we went straight to the geothermal baths and really saw what this is all about. The most beautiful natural hot springs that I have ever seen! A few notches above the ones in Rotorua for you guys in NZ... just check out the photos online, and it really does look exactly like that - http://www.bluelagoon.com/. Unfortunately we couldn't take any photos of our own inside the lagoon, as all the salts corrode your camera....

After our first night, we drove into the city of Reykjavik and stayed at a hotel in there. The next day we decided to drive towards the Gullfoss falls, which are about 100km away from the city. What a mistake that was! Besides trying to drive on the most dangerous piece of road we had ever seen, we had to remind ourselves that our wee car wasn't made for the outback of Iceland.... so we decided to turn around and spend our afternoon drinking coffee inside a cafe. We did find a way to visit the National Park and the Gulfoss Falls though... we ended up doing a 8 hour tour, which was the best decision we ever made. After getting started... there was no way our little Yaris was going to take us through the moutains and snow of Reykjavik :)

Enjoy the photos! xo
