Sicily

Our rental car to take us on our tour of Sicily. I think it was the only car in the whole of Italy that did not have major scratches-Road rules are optional for the Italians!
Raw (expensive) fish dish in Catania.

Well loaded truck

Some of the sights around the coastal town of Taromina.
Some of the local talent :)

The main town of Taromina is located high up on the cliffs of the coast. So it is a rather long and hot walk down to the beach....but the it is worth it when you get there. In an effort to get an 'instant tan' Simon managed to sizzle his head rather badly. Silly man.

Typical evening meal.
View of Mt Etna from the historic outdoor theatre. It is still used for concert events.

The weather was sensational which meant we both went swimming...well Simon went for a swim and Nat went in for a paddle but then ended up swimming when the wave knocked her over, much to the amusement of onlookers.
On the beach at Tusa on the Northern coast of Sicily. Very friendly town. We ended up talking to a group of locals at the pub who looked like they were straight out of the Godfather, only that were much more friendly. They even gave us some pumpkin seeds to nibble on.

Mermaid
Fantastic sunset.

Palermo was a city of contrast. Lots of interesting sights and history mixed with lots of poverty, crazy driving and a sense that you may get mugged as you walked down the many and narrow backstreets. The muggings are a very real threat and we heard of two stories while we were there of women getting attacked by men on scooters who speed past, knock them over and then take off with there purses. Needless to say we were ever vigilant and tried to look as inconspicuous as possible...not easy with a camera around your neck.

The locals take great pride in the environment :(

the local talent also wear BIG red hats and have ivory coloured skin I see??? And wearing a BIG red hat is hardly inconspicuous with or without cameras! Did your friendly godfather locals offer you any horsehead? Thort it might be done as a delicacy. And serving wine in the jug? Obviously the cheap local ferment!
Suzette and Evan are going Cianti in sept to get more bottles in wicker baskets for candle holders!
